Legendary drummer Louis Hayes comes to SJA from New York for this concert and masterclass before performing in Seattle at Jazz Alley. An NEA Jazz Master, Hayes’s propulsive hard‑bop style anchored landmark bands led by Horace Silver and Cannonball Adderley and later supported giants like Oscar Peterson, John Coltrane, and McCoy Tyner. His decades as a bandleader and sideman make him an invaluable
teacher for groove, time feel, and ensemble interaction.
